The scribes and Pharisees were right when they contemplated, “Who can forgive sins except God alone?” (Mark 2:7, Luke 5:21).
At this juncture, it is worth taking note that forgiveness of sin includes:
1.     Removing guilt;
2.     Nullifying penalty for sin; and
3.     Assigning righteousness.
What they failed to realize was that Isaiah 40:9 was being fulfilled right before their very eyes; “Here is your God” (John 5:39-40).  
Jesus is God Himself in the flesh (John 1:1)!
