Passover, also called Pesach (/ˈpɛsɑːx, ˈpeɪ-/; Hebrew: פֶּסַח Pesaḥ/ Peḏaḥ), is a major, biblically derived Jewish holiday.
God the Father passed over all the sins committed prior to the first coming of Jesus Christ as He was looking forward to the ultimate punishment of God the Son on the cross (Romans 3:21-26).
And now that Christ Jesus had been punished, His blood continuously cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).
Sin must be punished.
God is a loving Father and also a righteous Judge.
The foundation of God’s throne is justice and righteousness (Psalm 89:14).
If God was to forgo the punishment of His erring children, He would be dethroned.
And the next in line would be Satan. He has been eyeing God’s throne for the longest time (Isaiah 14:14-15).
Satan hates God but he is powerless against Him. So to hurt God, he attacks His beloved children.
But God the Father provided a righteous foundation to legally pardon His beloved children by punishing God the Son on the Cross.
Satan thought he killed the promised Seed on the cross. But to his unexpected horror, Jesus triumphed over him on the cross (Colossians 2:15).
Every violation that has been made or will ever be made was removed and nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14).
The blood of Jesus continually cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).
It was like Haman thought he would kill Mordecai on the gallows he prepared but ended up in the very same gallows himself (Esther 7:10).
There are debates over whether the Blood of Jesus cleanses future sins.
My take is that when Jesus died, I was not yet born. So if His Blood did not cleanse future sins, my sins would not have been cleansed.
Some may put forth the point that one must walk in the light for the Blood of Jesus to cleanse from sin. It kind of implies that one must not sin. If there is no sin, then what will the Blood cleanse?
It is like saying one must wash up before taking a bath.
So that settled it for me.
To me, walking in the light denotes a lifestyle. Believers do not live a lifestyle of sin. But we do succumb to temptations (deceit and seductions) every now and then. It is precisely because the Blood of Jesus continually cleanses us from all sin that we can pick ourselves up and not live under condemnation.
Condemnation kills! (2 Corinthians 3:4-6)
