Typology - Moab

“Crush the head of Moab”.

These words bring to mind Genesis 3:15 when God said the Seed would crush the head of the serpent.   The first inference would be Christ Jesus crushing the head of the serpent by the Cross. The first mention of Moab was in Genesis 19:37. He was the incestuous offspring of Noah and his firstborn daughter (Genesis 19:30-38).

Moab means “from father” or “the seed of the father”.

The miraculous birth of Jesus was viewed as that born out of wedlock, along the same lines of Moab.  Yet Jesus was from the Seed of God the Father. On this basis, I am of the view that Moab was a type of the Virgin birth in that Jesus came from the Seed of God the Father.

Moab was a type of the Virgin birth. This is another typology.

I say this reverently.   Growing up, Jesus was most probably labeled an illegitimate child born out of wedlock. That would imply that His earthly mother was promiscuous and the father was made a cuckold! This opinion is based on the footnote to Mark chapter 6, verse 3 of the Amplified Bible.

In Isaiah chapter 53, verse 10, we see that it was God’s will to crush Jesus and Jesus Himself said that He came to do the will of His Father (John 6:38; John 8:29).   The will of God was to make Jesus the ultimate sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:5-10).

By Christ crucified, the head of the serpent was crushed, signifying his complete and permanent defeat. This brings us back to the beginning when God said: “He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15).

We are talking about the extent of damages here.   A bruised head carries the image of fatal and complete destruction while a bruised heel paints a picture of temporal damages.
