In Numbers 20:11, Moses was supposed to speak to the Rock. However, he struck it not once but twice. Yet, God was merciful to cause water to pour out from it to quench the thirsty Israelites once again. But because Moses did not trust God, he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land (Numbers 20:12).
Walau eh, why so serious?
The phrase “Walau eh” originated from the Hokkien dialect.
Walau literally means "My Old" but carries the same meaning as "Oh My GOD".
The "eh" serves to accentuate the words “Walau!”
We have already established what Moses and the Rock represent.
From Romans 10:8-9, we know that salvation is by the confession of faith in Jesus; through speaking.
Therefore, Exodus 20:11-12 is the same as saying that by the law shall no man be justified (Romans 3:20, Galatians 2:16, Galatians 3:11).
The striking of the Rock was a picture of attempting to be saved by the works of the Law while speaking represented salvation by faith.
Jesus died to sin once, for all (Romans 6:10).
To strike the Rock twice signified that Jesus has to die again. Sacrilegious (Hebrews 7:25-28, Hebrews 10:1-18)!
The Old and New Covenant cannot be mixed; new wine cannot be poured into old wineskin (Matthew 9:16-17, Hebrews 8:7-8).
