Jesus was stripped so as to be striped

By His Stripe

For the longest time, I have this inkling feeling that the stipe of Jesus did not just heal me, it made me healthy. However, there was no conviction and I dismissed it as a fleeting thought. It was not until I read a devotional on the elements of holy communion when three words jumped at me, 'striped by scourging'. Then there was an inner impression to read it again. 

Stripped Naked To Be Striped

Jesus was stripped to be striped. He was stripped naked of His clothing so as to be stripped naked of His skin. The many stripes became one stripe to manifest a spiritual truth. The perfect health of Jesus was completely stripped (removed) so that we can be completely clothed with his perfect health. There was not even a trace of skin left on him. Thereafter, he was made to wear his robe which latched on to his thoroughly lacerated body. Before he hung on the cross, that robe which had glued itself to his bloodied body was torn from him, along with chunks of flesh. That was how thorough he emptied his perfect health so that we might be thoroughly healthy. 

Cat-O-Nine Tails

The Romans used cat-o-nine whips to flog the victims. It entailed the use of a whip with several strips of leather embedded with sharp glass and nails at the ends. The victim would be stripped with his hands tied to an upright post. The whipping would be carried out by two soldiers who would alternate the strokes between them. A lash of that whip would wrap around the affected part of the body with the nine ends latched firmly onto the flesh. As the soldier pulled back the whip, it would plow the victim and tear the flesh apart, exposing the bones and sinews. A second instance would likely land on the same spot and would gorge deeper into the already lacerated part. Huge amounts of blood loss were inevitable. The intent of this grueling form of barbaric torture was to weaken the victim to a state just short of collapse or death. With two soldiers alternating the strokes, the flogging was continuous and the victim had no chance to even catch a moment of short reprieve. At the end of the ordeal, the victim would be taunted by the soldiers. Some of the victims would die even before the scourging could be completed.

By His Stripe I am Healthy

The stripping of Jesus skin symbolizes the removal of his health. Therefore, by the stripe of Jesus, I am not just healed but perfectly healthy. I am in the pink of health, robustly healthy, eyes not dimmed and breath not abated. The only reason I am so is by the stripe of Jesus!
