We know that Jesus is God (John 1:1).
As God, He already rules all things.
God is Sovereign (Psalms 29:10; 47:2, Isaiah 45:9-10, Romans 9:19-21).
The point here is that God the Son as Jesus the Man reigns not because He is God. It is because He conquered it by the Cross (John 16:33).  He took it back from Satan legally; based on the solid foundation of righteousness and justice.
God gave the world to Adam the first man and he, in turn, gave it to Satan.
God was righteous when He took it back from Satan by another Man.
Christ crucified was the power that regained the world and God gave Jesus dominion over the world and subjected all things to Him (Deuteronomy 8:18, 1 Corinthians 15:27-28, Ephesians 1:20).

We have been robbed right under our nose by the great deceiver.  Yet we had no power to take back from him what was rightfully ours.  We even became enslaved by him!
Now that Jesus has taken it all back for and to us and freed us from satanic slavery, do we not worship him as our Hero?
Justice has been done!
The Lord is our Righteousness or Justice; Yahweh Tsidqenu (Jeremiah 33:16).
It has always been God’s every intention to give dominion (complete authority) over the world to mankind (Genesis 1:26-31; 9:1-7).

Jesus was the Word that God the Father sent out. The Son returned to the Father after accomplishing the purpose for which God the Father sent Him (Isaiah 55:11, Luke 1:31-33, Hebrews 1:3; 10:12).
